Accused Pentagon shooter pleads in unrelated case (AP)

LEESBURG, Va. ? A former Marine accused of firing shots at the Pentagon and Marine Corps museum at Quantico has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to unrelated larceny charges.

Yonathan Melaku (meh-LAH-koo) of Alexandria was charged in June in federal court with a series of overnight shootings at military-related targets in northern Virginia. But that case has been on hold while he awaited trial in Loudoun County involving a series of vehicle break-ins. He also faced a charge from an alleged escape attempt at the county jail.

Loudoun County prosecutor Jim Plowman said the six-month jail term from Monday's guilty plea is longer than sentencing guidelines suggest. Because of time served, Plowman expects federal marshals will pick up Melaku in coming weeks to answer to the federal charges.
