Neva Jean Oberts July 31, 1936 ~ January 7, 2012 Mrs. Neva Jean (Sumner) Oberts, of Somerville and formerly of Oregon, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Burleson-St. Joseph Manor in Caldwell after fighting her second battle with cancer. Neva, as she was known to everyone, was born in Roseburg, Oregon, the daughter of James Ceril and Lurena (Turpin) Sumner. She grew up in Portland, Oregon and eventually came to Texas. She was married to Elbert L. Oberts and together they literally "made music together". She and her husband of 22 years, sang at many church functions all over Burleson County. Neva played the organ and piano at the Caldwell Brethren Church and at the Lutheran Church in Lyons, as well as the Presbyterian Church in Somerville. Neva and Elbert were active members in the Snook Assembly of God Church and volunteered tirelessly. Neva is preceded in death by her parents and numerous siblings. She is survived by her loving husband Elbert Oberts of Somerville; her daughters, Catherina Nolan of Salem, Oregon and Connie McArtor of Portland, Oregon; her son, Christopher Gray of Portland, Oregon and her 14 year old grandson, Calub Castanada, whom she and her husband are rearing. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Neva is planned for 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church in Snook with Pastor David Norton officiating.
