Partnership Underscores Commitment to Growth of Large Area Touch Market and Highlights Continued Innovation Based on ClearOhm Technology
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cambrios Technologies Corporation, the leader in nanotechnology-based solutions to enable the development of electronic devices with transparent conductors, today announced its partnership with sensor-maker Shin-Etsu Polymer Co., Ltd. to develop large area touch sensors made with Cambrios' ClearOhm? coating material for Ultrabooks and tablet computers. Cambrios will showcase tablets and Ultrabooks utilizing these touch sensors at CEATEC JAPAN 2012, October 2 ? 6, 2012.?Working with Shin-Etsu underscores our commitment to solidifying the large area touch supply chain and expanding our world-class ecosystem of IC suppliers, sensor makers and film suppliers to serve the large area touch market.??Partnering with Shin-Etsu to create touch sensors for Ultrabooks and tablets accelerates our mutual efforts to bring ODM and OEM customers cost-effective, high-performance solutions for large area touch applications,? said Dr. Rahul Gupta, Cambrios' Senior Director of Business Development. ?Working with Shin-Etsu underscores our commitment to solidifying the large area touch supply chain and expanding our world-class ecosystem of IC suppliers, sensor makers and film suppliers to serve the large area touch market.?
Shin-Etsu has begun pilot production of touch sensors utilizing ClearOhm coating material for tablets and Ultrabooks ranging in size from 7? to 15.6?. The company also plans to develop touch sensors for the automotive market with ClearOhm material.
?Cambrios' ClearOhm coating material provides the best optical and electrical performance at the lowest cost for today's large area touch applications. This is an important consideration as we expand our business beyond automotive touch applications and work with our OEM and ODM customers to tap into the rapidly growing market for touch panels for tablet computers and Ultrabooks,? said Toshi Kinoshita, Department Manager of Marketing & Sales at Shin-Etsu Polymer Co., Ltd.
Cambrios' ClearOhm coating material enables superior optical performance and high-conductivity film-based sensors ranging from 30 to 150 Ohms/square, a requirement for large-size touch panels ? unachievable with ITO sputtered on film. Film-based sensors are preferred to traditional glass-based sensors for panels larger than 7 inches and panels with curved surfaces because of their lower cost, lighter weight, thinness and ?shatter-proof? qualities. Touch sensors based on ClearOhm Film and ClearOhm Ink are more cost effective than existing technologies, thus allowing faster mass-market adoption of touch-enabled Ultrabooks and all-in-one computers.
