Anti-Fracking Rally Includes Binghamton Mayor

There was plenty of anti-fracking protests outside the state office building in downtown Binghamton Tuesday.

Those opposed to fracking don't want the state to meet this month's deadline to complete fracking regulations-- and they don't want governor cuomo to give the go-ahead to allow fracking.

And they are also concerned about unofficial? reports that the governor is going to use the Southern Tier as a test area for fracking:

"it's rumored that permits will be issued for between ten and forty wells across the Southern Tier prior to the sgeis and health review being released. This course of action makes us human test subjects," said Isaac Silberman-Gorn of Citizen Action.

"Governor, I'm sorry but you have to miss the deadline, and we're going to start all over again if that's what you need to do, that's what you should do, that's the only thing that could possibly protect the citizens of the state," said Binghamton mayor Matt Ryan.
?
And in a new development, DEC Commissioner Joe Martens said in a statement today that he will not issue an sgeis, which would set fracking regulations,? until a state health study is complete. but, "this does not mean that the issuance of permits for high-volume hydraulic fracturing would be delayed."
